"Are you buying or selling?" said Daniel Rennes. It is a mini level where Lara can sell objects for money. Later on, she realized that Daniel Rennes is dead because of the Monstrum, grabbed the weapons, and ran through a trapdoor before everything explodes.

This is an easter egg! Read more about it here.

05B.02 - Funkatron 800[]

Also known as the Atari 2600 machine[1], found by Shirley Manson from Tomb Raider Forums.

Looks like an Edison phonograph. Found here[2].

The Intellivision is a home video game console released by Mattel Electronics in 1979.

More information from the Mattel Intellivision here[3]. Found by user Shirley Manson (from Tomb Raider Forums)

05B.05 - Lin Lin stamps[]

The Lin Lin stamps is a reference to Tin Tin[4]

The Ireland levels from Tomb Raider Chronicles was inspired by Tintin's "The Black Island" as was told by Andy Sandham in Tomb of Ash livestream. He read it when he was a child and loved it and also by Hellboy.[5]

05B.06 - Books.[]

Some of the books can be read, it's only for the sharp eye.

Some of the titles are (second picture from top to bottom):

  • Vercignetorix? (Maybe a reference to Astrix and the powers of the god? a core design game)
  • Something with Sex of Six
  • Egypt revealed (reference to Tomb Raider The Last Revelation?)
  • Rome (reference to Tomb Raider Chronicles?)
  • Venice (reference to a level from Tomb Raider II?)
  • Julius Caesar (Maybe a reference to Astrix and the powers of the god?)

05B.07 - Painting of the sleeping dog and child[]

Apparently G. Bonavia was a British artist, maybe from Maltese origin.

05B.08 - Hidden painting[]

A hidden painting buried behind a box Goddard Legumes..

  • Creator: Odilon Redon (1840-1916)[7]
  • Made in: 1906
  • Name: The Buddha

Odilon Redon (1840-1916) was a French symbolist painter, printmaker, draughtsman and pastellist. Fun fact. The artist Pharaoh Sanders with his Pharaoh Sanders Quartet used the painting as their album "Crescent with Love". [8]

05B.09 - Box WTR PK Q5[]

One removed feature of Rennes' Pawnshop was you can buy weapons. The WTR PK Q5 is a reference to the Walter PPK gun.

The gun was produced in Germany and it's famous of the gun of James Bond. So the box would contain guns? The right one has the text SAM #02889. I think that SAM is an abbreviation of Severe Ammunition Material or ... Maybe the #02889 was a password to put in the computer..

Unknown references[]

05B.10 - Map of France[]

It is just what it is, a map of France.

05B.11 - Painting with roman gods[]

This is a gem that appears also in Von Croy's Apartment. The gods are Aphrodite and Mars. But I couldn't find it.

05B.12 - Locker[]

On a locker there is the text DIE and two pin up models. These look a bit like Lara Croft. Maybe some frustrated Core Design programmer?

05B.13 - Computer logged in[]

On the screen you can see:

Command console v2.0
User logged on\
security code **** .

We can only speculate what it's function would be. Maybe Lara would enter the code to exit.

Trivia[]

05B.14 - The river barge[]

There is a whole river barge. Maybe it is cut content. With it she should go to the scrapyard or to the Louvre sewer room.

Notice the sign "Elizabeth" on it. Mysterious, maybe named after a family member..

05B.15 - Inside the barge[]

Inside the river barge is also a newspaper with the word "Pizza" on it. And the barge is fully textured inside, complete with a tv and a stairwell. I assume in this room there should be a cutscene or an ingame scene where Lara studies the map, as the barge goes down the river..

05B.16 - Warning sign and face[]

Found this picture in the gmx files. Some of them are not used. The warning sign: In three languages is written warning: English, French, German. There is also a face maybe it is Elizabeth?

05B.17 - Le Serpent Rouge poem[]

The name of Daniel Rennes give references to:
